As a safety precaution, you should have one for your home, car and even one for travel. It is also advisable is obtain a free "how to" book on first aid that is provided by your local Red Cross office.
Traumatic Blood Loss
One of the most frightening injuries is traumatic blood loss from superficial wounds, minor cuts, and abrasions that wont stop bleeding. All too often, using the first aid kit's gauze is not enough to stop the bleeding. It is a sad fact that such a wound can result in the loss of life if medical attention is not immediately available.
Recently, a product was made commercially available that will instantly stop bleeding. The original version is used by the military, emergency medical systems and law enforcement departments.
The product is a hemostatic agent capable of controlling bleeding without any significant exothermic reaction (heat release). It is an affordable FDA approved product capable of promoting clotting even in the presence of severe arterial and venous bleeding without the risk of causing any burning discomfort to the patient.
Introducing QuikClot® Sport™ Advanced Clotting Sponge
Rapidly and Safely Prevents Severe Blood Loss at the Scene of an Injury
Quick Clot Sport is a new breakthrough product that prevents traumatic blood loss from superficial wounds, minor cuts, and abrasions. It saves lives by rapidly stopping severe bleeding. It is a must for your first aid kit.
It incorporates the latest lifesaving blood clotting technologies that provides a level of safety to anyone who might be at risk from bleeding injuries - including athletes and children. Quik Clot Sport is designed to fit easily into backpacks, first aid kits and your car’s glove compartment.
QuikClot Sport helps create a stable, powerful clot, which stays firmly in place until it is removed in the hospital or operating room setting.
How does it work?
When QuikClot® comes into contact with blood in and around a wound it rapidly absorbs the smaller water molecules from the blood. The larger platelet and clotting factor molecules remain in the wound in a highly concentrated form. This promotes extremely rapid natural clotting and prevents severe blood loss. Since the reaction is physical, and not biological or chemical, there is almost no chance for an allergic reaction to occur.
How is it packaged?
Each sterile individually vacuum-packed surgical mesh bag is packed with zeolite beads that stop bleeding almost instantly. Designed to fit easily into backpacks and first aid kits, QuikClot Sport™ and QuikClot Sport Silver™ come in 25-gram and 50-gram ‘clotting sponges’ that rapidly and safely stop bleeding at the scene of an injury.
QuikClot® Sport™ Silver Antibacterial Clotting Sponge
With QuikClot® Sport™ Silver there is the added antibacterial advantage of ionic silver. Silver acts to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi which can be especially important if medical care is not immediately available. It combines near-instantaneous clotting action with silver-based infection protection. It is effective against S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and C. albicans.
